Camp Carefree, located in Stokesdale, NC, offers camping excursions for children who experience chronic illnesses. For one weekend in September, the Brain Injury Association of NC holds a retreat ("Life is An Adventure") for adults with brain injuries. Popular activities include the Friday night dance that is sponsored by several Pilot Clubs located in NC as well as traditional camp activities (arts and crafts, fishing and horseback riding). Survivors, along with family members and caregivers, are welcome!
Only a limited number of spaces are available for this retreat and they fill up quickly- as soon as the dates are announced, eager campers send in their registration forms. Survivors can attend for $20, thanks to donations from the community (the cost per camper is $150). The Cary Pilot Club sponsors several campers annually. We also donate both prizes for bingo (another popular activity) and general camp supplies (sunscreen, bug spray and cleaning wipes to name only a few). Occasionally, members are able to attend camp and donate their time to help with all of the fun activities!
